If there is one thing we dislike as humans, it is a lack of control. We feel troubled and anxious when circumstances don’t go our way. Our mind gets foggy, and we descend into a pit of overthinking. And it doesn’t end there. We blame ourselves for the chaos in our lives, supplemented by feelings of regret. The truth is, there are only so many things we can control.
When dark clouds loom over our heads, we can only hope the wind blows them afar. But, truth be told, we can’t control the storm, the sound of deafening thunder, or the downpour.
Now, the question is, how do we find happiness when all we can see is disorientation and havoc?
It is time to take control of your lives.
“He got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, “Quiet! Be still!” Then the wind died down and it was completely calm.”
Mark 4:39
When Jesus was with His disciples, the men were daunted by the waves that broke over the boat to the point it was nearly swamped. They feared death and panicked, for things were out of their control.
So, what did they do?
They turned to the Son of Man, He who has authority over the winds of fury and waves that have the power to kill.
In our lives, when we face a similar situation, we must turn to Him for help. We must submit our fears to Him and let Him take the wheel. With God on our side, there is nothing we cannot do.
Jesus asked His disciples, “Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?” – We, as humans, are very literal creatures. We like to believe in what we see, but the key to peace is faith. God sent you to this world for a mission, and as it is said:
“Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said, “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.”
Hebrews 13:5
When we have faith, we walk through adversity with sheer courage and fervor, not fear. As a result, we weather the storm and see the fruits of our labor ripen. Yes, moments of happiness may seem scarce at times, and you will find yourself again in the face of trouble but persist.
Control suffering, don’t let it control you.
Author Lynette Costner presents her riveting read Sanctified Suffering to supplement your spiritual journey. In the book, she teaches how life’s suffering, although painful and grueling, is seasonal and preparational.
